The Internet of things (IoT) is a term that is increasingly being used but perhaps not everyone understands what it means. Generally speaking, the IoT is a new model, where the virtual world of information technology and communication is integrated into the real world of things. Sensors and actuators are making objects “smart” or rather, “intelligent”, because they are interconnected via a network to transmit information and data, first and foremost for monitoring and remote control purposes. The aim of the “Internet of things” is therefore to connect the real world to the digital one to control, improve and intervene more quickly in countless processes. The results are, for example, benefits in terms of safety, efficiency and energy savings, and more generally speaking, the quality of life.
In the coming years, the world will be “covered” by a genuine digital system: GPS sensors will report geo-location information through the network; cameras and microphones will serve as eyes and ears, sensors will measure changes in temperature, pressure, vibration, and consumption levels. These are just a few examples.
Having realised the great potential and opportunities developing around the Internet of Thing, Satiz TPM has devised and created IOTEXPO, the first digital Virtual Expo made in Italy, to map, catalogue and certify all of the businesses in Italy and the European basin, adopting solutions, and developing projects, designs, services, and products using the IoT.
Aim: to establish a large-scale relational platform for the creation of a business community for all themes involved in the Internet of Things; a lively “virtual piazza” to raise the profile of the state-of-the-art IoT, thanks to a cross-media digital communication campaign.
Some of the main aims of IOTEXPO can be summed up as the organisation of data and information for the IoT phenomenon, promoting all IoT projects, offering modular visibility spaces for all companies operating pro-actively in this sector, specifically SMEs (small and medium enterprises), to help them to communicate and interact both with clients and partners, promoting networking between companies within an area that will bring great changes over the coming years, especially to business and distribution strategies. IOTEXPO directories will also be joined by editorial communication and information modules, channels on social networks, and various training initiatives.
